Google v the World
admin June 18th, 2008
A number of businesses are reportedly considering a legal challenge to Googles decision to allow businesses to bid for their competitors trademarks which will result in a cost increase for pay per click advertising. The biggest threat to companies being that if they choose not to buy the advertising space then they run the risk of leading consumers directly into the hands of competition.
Already it is reported that searches on some of the nations largest supermarkets are resulting in pay-per-click ads for BeatThatQuote.com. In retaliation some of the major heavyweight brands are clubbing together to discuss raising a legal challenge opposing the change. This could prove beneficial to the seo industry however as it will bring more light on the fact that brands need to look at optimising their own brand name. As this shows if they don’t then someone else will.
