New Firefox Extensions

admin June 2nd, 2008

It’s been a while since I have browsed the firefox extensions and themes so while having a play tonight I came across four that I thought were worth sharing.

Visual Bookmarks

Allows you to add bookmarks using a thumbnail screen shot rather than just a text link. Works as a separate tab in your browser. When scrolling over the thumbnail the screen shot enlarges to full screen so it’s good if you remember a site visually.

It’s a good extension but would be improved if it was accessible through the standard Firefox bookmarks otherwise it can take a bit longer to get to. One option is to open up the tool as soon as you open Firefox so it’s always on hand.

It’s a good first release though.

Tab Effects

I’m afraid this is a purely geeky/fun extension. Click to install it, restart firefox then open a few tabs. When you click between them instead of the boring switch it spins round! You don’t get the full effect in the image below so try it out for yourself. It’s a tiny bit juddery and I’ve read it crashes the odd browser but the novelty factor far outweighs this.

PermaTabs

Allows you to set regularly used tabs as permanent tabs. On starting up the browser will automatically load these tabs so you don’t have to go and find them for yourself. Handy if you automatically go to the same pages each time you log on.

SnapShots for Firefox

Allows you to see a snapshot of a web page by holding your mouse cursor over a link. Really good if you know the look of the page you are looking for but can’t remember the name of it, saves clicking through onto the wrong sites and wasting time.
