Launch of a Surefast Strapping Systems

360innovate are delighted to announce the launch of the Reid Brothers Sure Fast Strapping website.

Reid Brothers (Glasgow) Ltd was established in 1868, over 140 years ago. They sell a range of strapping and load securing equipment to a variety of industries including offshore, construction and haulage.
Reid Brothers required the design and development of a website on which they could sell their range of strapping products under the brand name Surefast. Emphasis was placed upon creating a professional website that could be easily navigated by users with only basic computer skills, coupled with the knowledge they can make secure payment transactions online.

360innovate proposed an ecommerce shopping cart for the Reid Brothers website with clear navigation allowing users to easily find their desired products.

    There isn't a favicon

Why is there no contact form on the contact page joomla can make email forms easily!

Why cant the text wrap around the images on the history page >

    http://www.surefast-strapping.co.uk/index.php?o…

Next thing why isn't there any S.E.O. Joomla is extremely powerful when it comes to it and should be fixed as a priority how are people supposed to find this site in Google and other search engines?

Why is the login form not up higher in the page I would say it should be above the fold.

When I'm viewing “my cart” I see these two links ONLY on this page are they meant to be there? >

If your running that site on an Apache server please enable SEO friendly urls in Joomla.

I know this comment is all over the place but I had to list everything that's well either wrong or needs fixed.

Don't get me wrong I'm not out to cause trouble and I'm not flaming :) I'm here to help.

    Hi Bryan,

    Thanks for taking the time to write the comments on the website. I’d like to take the time to address the points you raised below;

All sites we produce at 360innovate are xhtml valid (transitional or strict) at the point of launch. As all of our sites are content managed the customer has the ability to manage the content throughout all the pages in their website. As you will no doubt be aware this means that due to the markup that wysiwig editors often produce pages don’t always validate. There is a trade off of course but the ability for customers to have complete control over the content outweighs the small issue of the mark up that is produced.

The following points in your comments were based on client request or preference: for example – no contact form, imagery in history page not wrapping etc. A favicon was also not required in this instance.

The key purpose of the website was to provide information on the product range and illicit phone enquiries. The cart and login were seen as additional functionality that was secondary to the information led content within the site. For more information on the “concept of the fold” and its implications take a look at:

    http://www.360innovate.co.uk/blog/2009/05/infat

The cart at present has two categories of product. This will no doubt grow as and when the client wishes to extend the range. The requirements were very specific and without going in to too much detail many of the products have to meet strict requirements, it is therefore necessary for the customer to speak to the vendor prior to making a purchase.

The web servers we use run Zeus rather than Apache. Again there was also a trade off due to the use of a specific 3rd party component.

When designing / developing commercial sites there will almost always be a trade off somewhere in any given project, this might be functionality, design, scope etc . Project requirements are usually completely client specific and in discussion with the client we always aim to arrive at the best possible solution within time and budget.

I hope my comments above go some way to address your questions.

    Cheers,

    The 360 Web Team.
