Thanks for your comments, Chris. There are ongoing issues with autoplay in Chrome, could this be what you are seeing?

I've posted a bug report at GitHub; using the latest version of this script breaks the HTML5 autoplay behavior. Also, a feature request: how about .srt support for em & strong tags, or at least for italics & bold?

I see that you've added .srt support, but how do we implement it? I couldn't locate any documentation at Github.

Very cool indeed, though I second @grwebguy that some standard format would have been preferred. It should be easy to load caption data via jQuery's AJAX loader, so the format could be X(HT)ML or JSON. Inline elements are somewhat inelegant, especially because there are excellent tools like MAGPie that make it easier to generate text in standard caption formats, not HTML.
