Yahoo unveils new search engine

admin June 2nd, 2008

Yahoo! India Search is now operating Glue Pages Beta, a new style of searching that replaces the usual search results list with a broad selection of news articles, videos, images, and Wikipedia entries along with the standard search results.

At the moment Glue Pages is still limited to certain categories (sport, travel, entertainment, health, finance and technology) and obviously certain searches will not produce the same wealth of results as others. Our search on Gordon Brown provided more varied information than a search on Alex Salmond.
The Glue Pages is similar to the new Firefox add-on Hyperwords where by simply highlighting any word on a page, you can find out it’s meaning on Dictionary.com, Wikipedia, Google, and loads more. There’s links to medical sites, shopping site, as well as simple ways to blog the post or page. You can also customize your user settings to include a variety of different reference points that suit your needs.
Both reference tools offer users the ultimate internet functionality experience; cutting down search time and providing a larger base of information from which to expand your search.

It is expected that Yahoo! will roll out the Glue Pages Beta feature across their other sites throughout the year - so keep an eye out.
